Defogging Personal Branding

On November 13th, WICT UK members were lucky enough to attend a session by the award-winning international marketing strategist, board advisor and researcher, Dr Geraint Evans, for an informative discussion about the complex world of personal branding.

Dr Evans has held a variety of global marketing leadership roles and worked with brands such as ODEON Cinemas Group, Virgin Media, Tesco, Boots and Whitbread. His session was all about helping members develop their own personal brand strategy and showing them how to navigate the rapidly-evolving social media landscape.

Here are a few of Dr Evans’ top tips:

 - Ask yourself who your personal brand is for  - your employer, the marketplace, your industry, or your company

-        Be courageous and ask your colleagues, friends & family to tell you how you are perceived – you’ll probably feel great afterwards

-        Set yourself goals – how do you want to be introduced by a stranger in 12 months’ time and set measurable goals to get there

-        Work out what makes you unique – what are your natural talents, what problems do you solve, what are your passions and interests

-        Create and post content: be yourself and give it a go – the more you do it the more you’ll find your authentic voice!
