"Who Knows You" Networking Workshop
Most of us think we know what “Networking” means - it’s all about attending industry events, introducing yourself to potentially useful contacts, and exchanging business cards at the end.
Right?
Wrong, according to the acclaimed business network strategist, Andy Lopata, who let WICT UK members into the real secrets of networking at a fascinating workshop on September 5th, at NTT Data’s Offices in Shoreditch, London.
Labelled as 'one of Europe's leading business networking strategists' by the Financial Times, Andy has interviewed a number of top leaders on why networking is so important to them. He shared his thoughts and insights from his own experience, in this interactive workshop.
His central message was a reversal of the traditional “it’s who you know” mantra. According to Andy, “it’s not who you know, but who knows you”.
He also gave members insights into how to use your network to get a promotion and understanding who you need to influence and what they need to hear. Finally, he talked about how to network in order to become better-equipped - get different perspectives by diversifying your network - and how to network to become better-connected.
The session finished with a surprising, interactive game of “six degrees of separation”, where we all discovered that our network is a lot more useful than we realise in enabling us to meet the people we admire the most in the world.
