How do leaders create impactful teams, expand their influence and build allies founded on diversity, equity and inclusion? For rising leaders, on-the-job experience with a focus on learning and development, goal-setting, and networking are crucial for career development.

Last month, I had the privilege of joining the WICT Network’s Rising Leaders programme, a transformative, week-long development training designed for emerging women leaders in the media, entertainment and technology sectors. It’s thoughtfully designed – participants immerse themselves in understanding leadership styles, examine case studies and collaborate and expand their professional networks.

After years of success in the US, the programme has expanded its global footprint and made its international debut in Europe. Our inaugural overseas cohort had 16 women leaders join from six companies across five countries. Our week began with a journey of self-discovery and reflection, helping us identify our strengths and areas for growth. This introspective part of the training set the stage for the days that followed.

As the week unfolded, we delved deeper into critical leadership topics, from considering power and politics in the workplace to honing strategic thinking and executive presence. The concepts presented were insightful and easy to grasp, making them immediately applicable to our professional lives.

What made this programme exceptional was its interactive nature and expert facilitation, which created a safe space for us to connect and learn, personalising the experience. It was a celebration of each woman's uniqueness.

The week concluded with a captivating keynote conversation with Asif Sadiq, the Chief Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at Warner Bros. Discovery. Asif shared invaluable insights from his work and experiences in creating diverse and inclusive work environments, stressing the importance of ongoing efforts to drive long-term change in this critical area.

Upon completing the programme, I returned home with a suitcase full of books and a heart filled with joy and inspiration. The WICT Network's Rising Leaders programme was an empowering and unforgettable experience, providing me with valuable insights and connections to elevate my professional development and career.
