WICT UK & Ireland hosts panel discussion on developing responsible AI

This month, WICT UK & Ireland hosted an important – and timely – panel discussion on the ethics of AI, held just a week after the UK held its AI Safety Summit, which saw global thought leaders and researchers in the field of AI come together at Bletchley Park.

Moderated by our WICT UK Board Members Colin Miles with introductory remarks from Sarah Wood, we heard from an expert panel Theresa GebertKieran Miller, and Isabella Giulia Grandi De Surgeloose about how to develop responsible AI and how artificial intelligence is set to transform the workplace.

The group shared that ethical AI includes human accountability throughout all parts of the system – industry needs to put up guardrails, acting as referees to monitor for discriminatory outcomes. Transparency in data collection and usage is crucial too, as enterprises should establish ethical frameworks/scorecards and communicate them clearly to maintain trust with customers. Meanwhile, employers must focus on upskilling their workforce to understand the mechanics of AI, emphasising a priority on using AI responsibly.

Overall, they’re embracing AI and are excited for what’s to come from its impact on society, for organisations and for households.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the lively discussion, which was followed by networking drinks, catching up with colleagues and making friends within the industry.
