She Thinks Like a Boss - Leadershp

Rated 3.5 out of 5.

We felt that this book was aimed at female leaders in the first few years of their leadership journey and it certainly seemed to resonate with the book club members in this category. It was great to hear how some of the ideas and tips had been implemented already with visible results. A great quote from one of our members, ‘I’ve already changed how I do things for me and my team’

We felt that it was clear and easy to understand and that it was structured well to enable dipping in and out of chapters as needed. We liked the reminder to build relationships, not only networks and how important letting go is as you move into a leadership role. The use of data, the author’s own experiences and referenced research material was good and we particularly liked the quotes from notable women.

The chapter on different styles prompted a discussion on being authentic, there is no on size fits all ‘boss’ and knowing your worth. It was great to hear one of our members say ‘it made me feel empowered to be myself’.

We had a great debate on imposter syndrome, how its not just a female thing and how actually it can be a positive thing to use to drive more inclusive change. One of the group liked being an ‘imposter’ in a very ‘male’ environment.

We felt that the book didn’t go into enough detail in some of these areas but it was brilliant that it sparked such a great conversation within our club.
